Bellarmine University Graduates – Franciscan Memorial Endowment
The Bellarmine University Graduates – Franciscan Memorial Endowment, supported by former Bellarmine University students, is dedicated to funding the education of student friars from the Province of Our Lady of Consolation. This endowment honors the legacy of Friar John Loftus, who served as Bellarmine’s first academic dean from 1953 until his passing in 1969. During the early years of Bellarmine College, over 27 friars contributed to the academic and spiritual growth of its students.
Today, Friar John Pozhathuparambil serves as the Director of Campus Ministry and Chaplain at Bellarmine University. Reflecting on the institution’s mission, he states, “Bellarmine educates the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—focusing on the holistic development of students. Often, we hear the mantra ‘Be You at BU.’ Thomas Merton’s spirit and legacy are alive in the community, encouraging all to find their ‘true self’ and what God wants them to be.”
The endowment ensures that the spirit of Bellarmine, which prepares students for distinguished careers, world-class citizenship, future leadership, and missionary work, continues to thrive through the education and formation of future Franciscan friars.
