Her compositions move between careful observation and intuitive mark-making, creating visual records of details that might otherwise disappear into the background of daily life.

Kordsmeier’s practice is closely tied to the landscapes and communities of Kentuckiana. Walking through neighborhoods, countryside, and familiar local places, she photographs moments of light, quiet streetscapes, overlooked structures, and elements of the natural environment. These observations become sketches and studio studies before being isolated, layered, and reimagined within her finished works.

At the center of the exhibition is the idea of residual presence: the possibility that the objects we use and the places we inhabit carry traces of the lives lived around and within them. A domestic object, a familiar building, or a fragment of landscape can become an anchor for memory, connecting individual experience to family history and a larger sense of place.

Through these works, Kordsmeier invites viewers to slow down and consider what remains at the edges of our attention: the ordinary things we hold onto, the landscapes we repeatedly move through, and the subtle patterns that help shape who we become.

Kordsmeier earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cardinal Stritch University and her Master of Fine Arts from Memphis College of Art. Her work has appeared in galleries and community exhibitions throughout the Midwest and South, and she remains active in the local arts and nonprofit community.

In the Margins will be on view December 3, 2026 through January 28, 2027 at the Mary Anderson Center Gallery at Mount Saint Francis.
