The Award will be presented at the Franciscan International Award Dinner on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Wilds Golf Club in Prior Lake.<\/p>\n<p>In its Mission Statement, VEAP describes itself as <em>\u201cNeighbors serving neighbors in need.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.franciscansusa.dev\/franciscansusa.org\/2017-recipient-of-franciscan-international-award-announced\/logo\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6411\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6411\" src=\"http:\/\/www.franciscansusa.dev\/franciscansusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/logo.png\" alt=\"logo\" width=\"145\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>VEAP focuses on four program areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Access to healthy foods<\/strong> \u2013 in 2015 VEAP distributed 3.5 million pounds of food, 40% of which was fresh produce.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access to social services<\/strong> \u2013 VEAP social workers use a holistic lens and create a space of hope to support families from crisis to stability. In 2015, VEAP used $167,168 to support housing, utilities and car repairs for clients.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access to transportation<\/strong> \u2013 volunteers provide transportation for low-income seniors to mostly medical appointments and rides home from VEAP\u2019s food pantry. In 2015, volunteer drivers provided 8,045 rides for low-income seniors and 4,137 rides home from the food pantry.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Access to resources for children and youth<\/strong> \u2013 VEAP\u2019s children and youth resources are designed to support positive childhood memories.
