Ni siquiera era originalmente un franciscano.<\/p>\n<p>San Antonio naci\u00f3 en Lisboa, Portugal, a finales del siglo XII. Inici\u00f3 su vida religiosa como agustino. Pero poco despu\u00e9s de la ordenaci\u00f3n sacerdotal, conoci\u00f3 a algunos frailes franciscanos que regresaban del trabajo misionero en el norte de \u00c1frica. Inspirado por su celo y coraje, se pas\u00f3 a los franciscanos para dedicarse a la predicaci\u00f3n y difusi\u00f3n de la fe entre los pueblos africanos.<\/p>\n<p>Esos planes fueron frustrados; algunos podr\u00edan decir por la inspiraci\u00f3n del Esp\u00edritu Santo. En cambio, fue a Italia, donde conoci\u00f3 a San Francisco, y se descubri\u00f3 que ten\u00eda un talento superior para predicar y ense\u00f1ar. Pero la fuerza de su predicaci\u00f3n y el profundo amor de Dios que pronunciaron, el amor de Antonio por Dios y el amor desbordante y permanente de Dios por cada uno de nosotros, cambiaron la vida de quienes lo escucharon.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_2739\">\n<dt><a ref=\"magnificPopup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.franciscansusa.dev\/franciscansusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fr-david-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"para david 2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.franciscansusa.dev\/franciscansusa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/fr-david-2-285x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Padre David toca la frente de las personas con una reliquia de San Antonio.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>En 1231 Antonio muri\u00f3 en Padua, Italia. La devoci\u00f3n por \u00e9l comenz\u00f3 poco despu\u00e9s, ya que fue reconocido como uno de los gigantes espirituales de su \u00e9poca. Pronto acudieron numerosos peregrinos a visitar su tumba en Padua. Cuando entraron a la bas\u00edlica donde fue enterrado, fueron al altar, donde yac\u00eda debajo la tumba de San Antonio. Colocar\u00edan sus manos y luego sus frentes sobre la tumba.
