It seems odd to give Thanks for a heart-attack..but that is what I do.
Standing in the studio, suddenly hit with the worst pain of this lifetime I was drenched in sweat and for some reason I knew immediately what it was and I laid my body down on the cold floor of the studio and steadied my breath.
Realizing that I had to get help quickly I slowly slid my body towards the studio door and called for Richard who was still out on the porch.
He heard me and I said, ‘’Please call the ambulance at Highlander Point , I am having a heart-attack.” ..In less than five minutes they were here!
As I lay on the floor I felt little or no fear..the overwhelming experience was one of Gratitude for this long Life, for Family and friends, for Art and Yoga.
This group of quilts made during this period are echoes of what helps us deal with Life..Wisdom and Strength.
In no way do I claim to have mastered either of them, but like all of us I do consciously strive to grow closer as this Lifetime winds down.

Penny Sisto
Penny Sisto è un'artista di fama internazionale che ha esposto negli Stati Uniti e all'estero. Tra le presentazioni internazionali delle sue opere figurano la mostra di una serie di trapunte dell'Olocausto presso la Gatehouse di Auschwitz e una selezione delle sue trapunte della serie sulla schiavitù esposta al Royal Armories Museum di Leeds, in Inghilterra, nel 2008. Ha vinto numerosi premi e riconoscimenti per le sue opere ed è stata protagonista di due programmi televisivi pubblici. Sostenitrice della giustizia sociale e della pace, è nota per i temi difficili, come l'AIDS, la povertà e il razzismo, che affronta nelle sue opere.
Nata nelle Isole Orcadi, al largo della punta settentrionale della Scozia, Sisto iniziò a imparare a cucire all'età di tre anni. Da adulta, lavorò per il Ministero britannico per lo Sviluppo d'Oltremare, sfruttando le sue competenze di ostetrica per aiutare nelle cliniche sanitarie delle tribù Masai, LuBukusu e Kikuyu dell'Africa orientale. Il periodo trascorso in Africa la ispirò a combinare le tecniche di quilting, ricamo e appliqué apprese dalla nonna con i metodi di perline e collage dei suoi amici africani, dando vita allo stile distintivo che caratterizza le sue opere oggi.
Penny Sisto ha ricevuto numerose commissioni per quilt, tra cui quattro opere per l'Abbazia del Getsemani, dove un quilt di 8,6x2,7 metri intitolato "Cristo Risorto" viene appeso ogni Pasqua e per i servizi funebri. Tra le altre collezioni che contengono opere di Sisto figurano: Sisters of Charity, Sisters of Loretto, Thomas Merton International Studies Center, Spalding University, Kennedy Family e il Peabody Essex Museum nel Massachusetts. Tra le borse di studio selezionate che Penny Sisto ha ricevuto figurano: Kentucky Foundation for Women, Indiana Arts Commission, Master Fellowship e New Directions and Southern Arts. Nel 1993, le è stato conferito il Baha'i Peace Award for Arts Promoting World Peace per la sua opera di promozione della pace e della giustizia.
