Friar John Pozhathuparambil, a Conventual Franciscan priest from Kerala, India, first encountered the Franciscan spirit at the age of sixteen, when a visiting friar inspired his vocation. He entered Nirmalaram Minor Seminary in Kanjirappally and later continued his formation at Kolbe Ashram, Aluva, where he completed his novitiate and major seminary training. He earned bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Theology from the Pontifical Faculty of St. Joseph Seminary, Mangalapuzha, Kerala. Fr. John professed his Solemn Vows in 2000 and was ordained a priest in 2001.
He went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Malayalam Literature from Union Christian College, Aluva, in 2007, and a Doctorate in Ministry from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Kentucky, in 2021.
Before arriving in Louisville, Kentucky in 2010, Fr. John served as Director of Greyfriars Publications, Editor of Amalolbhava (a vernacular magazine), Definitor of his province, and Director of the Franciscan Reconciliation Retreat in India.
At Bellarmine University, in addition to serving as the Director of Campus Ministry, he teaches in the Theology Department, where he helps students explore faith, culture, and global perspectives. He has led several immersion trips to India to deepen intercultural and inter-religious understanding.
Fr. John is also the founder of several signature campus programs such as Nones Eating Naan, Satsang: Interfaith Dialogue, Catholic Retreat, TrueSelf Retreat, and the popular Pizza Gathering after Mass.
Known for his warmth and hospitality, Fr. John received Bellarmine’s Hospitality Award (2016), the Interfaith Path to Peace Award (2021), and the Inclusive, Innovative, and Intercultural Teaching Award (2022).
