Celebrating God’s Call:
The Ordination of Friar Pedro Lopez, OFM Conv.
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Conventual Franciscan Friars rejoiced as Friar Pedro Lopez, OFM Conv., was ordained to the priesthood at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish in El Paso, Texas. Surrounded by family, friends, parishioners, and over 50 of his brother friars, Friar Pedro embraced this sacred moment with deep gratitude and joy.
The ordination Mass was a moving testament to God’s faithfulness and the gift of vocation. As Friar Pedro lay prostrate before the altar during the Litany of the Saints, the prayers of the faithful filled the church, lifting him into the heart of the Church’s mission. The Most Reverend John Stowe, OFM Conv., Bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, presided, offering words of encouragement that reflected the hope and renewal embodied in this new chapter of ministry.
Ordinations within the Province are cherished occasions, marking a milestone not only for the friar being ordained but for the entire Franciscan community. Friar Pedro’s priesthood is a joyful reminder that the Lord continues to call and inspire men to serve in the Franciscan way of life.
His formation took him from his home community to various ministries across the Province, each experience shaping his heart for service. Following the Mass, the celebration continued with a reception where guests and friars alike shared stories, blessings, and words of support for Friar Pedro as he begins his priestly ministry.
Please join us in praying for friar Pedro as he steps into this new chapter of service to God’s people.
