One hundred years ago, a small group of Conventual Franciscan friars embarked on a journey of faith that would grow into a legacy of service, prayer, and brotherhood. From humble beginnings, these men—rooted in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi—established the Province of Our Lady of Consolation in 1926, answering the call to minister to the faithful across the United States and beyond. Now, as we eagerly anticipate 2026, we stand on the threshold of a great milestone: a century of unwavering dedication to God’s people.

The past century has been a story of growth, sacrifice, reconciliation, and love. From the early days of parish ministry to the expansion of retreat centers, from missionary work in Zambia and Central America to outreach in immigrant communities, we friars embody the Gospel through our actions and words. We have taught in universities, served in hospitals and prisons, consoled the grieving, and fed the hungry. We have walked alongside those in need, offering spiritual and personal care. This is the legacy we celebrate.

As we reflect on these 100 years, we do so with profound gratitude. We are thankful for the countless friars who embraced the call to Franciscan life, the people who welcomed and supported us, enabling ministries to flourish, and the many hands and hearts that sustain the Province of Our Lady of Consolation today. None of this would have been possible without our benefactors’ generosity, our friends’ prayers, the steadfast faith of those we serve, and the ongoing commitment of younger generations still aspiring to live as Franciscans.

The coming year will be a time of both remembrance and renewal. As we gather at historic locations across the Province to mark this anniversary, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose. These celebrations will not only honor the past; they will reaffirm our commitment to the future. The story of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation is still being written. With your support, we will continue to form new friars, strengthen our ministries, and answer the call of those in need.

We invite you to join us at one or more of our 100th Anniversary Celebrations as we praise and bless the Lord, giving thanks to God while commemorating this extraordinary milestone. These gatherings will offer moments for prayer and reflection, fellowship, and opportunities to connect with the friars and learn more about the Province’s impact over the past century. Together, we will celebrate God’s blessings and look forward to the future of Franciscan life and ministry.

“Remember when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received – only what you have given.”

-St. Francis of Assisi

Since the time of St. Francis and his first followers, our ministries, our ability to serve those in need, the education of new Friars, the care of our senior men all are possible with the partnership of our benefactors. Your generosity makes these stories possible.

PRAYER REQUESTS

For the Conventual Franciscan Friars of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation, Praesidium Accreditation is more than a seal of approval — it reflects our enduring commitment to creating environments of safety, accountability, and care in every aspect of our ministry.

Accreditation by Praesidium, an independent leader in abuse prevention, affirms that we have strong policies in place, regularly train friars and lay collaborators, and maintain clear, independent processes for responding to concerns. It is not a one-time designation but an ongoing commitment, maintained through annual reviews and continuous alignment with evolving national standards.

Through this process, we foster a culture of awareness and formation — equipping friars, staff, and volunteers not only to prevent harm, but to actively promote safety, healing, and trust. We actively engage those closest to our ministries — families, lay collaborators, and ministry partners — to help us recognize risks early, support safe environments, and uphold a culture of accountability.

Any report of misconduct is taken seriously, investigated by an independent professional, and reviewed by an external board. Our safeguarding practices are designed to protect the vulnerable, ensure transparency, and respond with integrity and care.

We invite anyone who has experienced abuse in a Church setting to come forward. Our commitment to justice and healing compels us to listen with compassion and act responsibly.
