Father John Elmer is a dedicated Conventual Franciscan Friar who has devoted his life to serving God and the Church with humility and compassion. He professed vows of Poverty, Chastity, and Obedience on July 15, 1964, becoming a cherished member of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation.
From the outset of his Franciscan journey, John’s path was marked by a profound commitment to pastoral ministry and service. His formative years encompassed rigorous academic pursuits at esteemed institutions such as Mount St. Francis, Our Lady of Consolation Seminary in Carey, OH, St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO, Assumption Seminary in Chaska, MN, and the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
On May 19, 1973, John joyfully celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Orders, embracing his calling to serve as an ordained priest. For nearly thirty-six years, he dedicated himself to ministering in parishes, touching the lives of countless individuals with his compassion, guidance, and unwavering faith.
In a pivotal moment of transition, John was called to join the Province Mission Advancement Office staff, where he collaborates with a dedicated team to serve the needs of the benefactors supporting the friars of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation. In this role, John treasures the opportunity to listen to the spiritual desires of donors, guiding them as they generously offer their gifts in service to the Church and the People of God.
For John, the donors of the friars are more than benefactors; they are esteemed brothers and sisters, collaborators in ministry, and partners in the Franciscan mission. Their support enables the friars to continue their varied ministries, enriching communities and spreading the message of love and compassion.
