For 40 years Fr. Leopold Keffler, OFM Conv., has worked at the annual Mount St. Francis Picnic.
“I love seeing the people,” he said. “It isn’t work, I love being out here.”
Despite the heat and humidity and some late-day storms, the Picnic drew attendees from across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky. The Hidden Treasures were swept up by eager shoppers, winners chose from a huge selection of delicious cakes, and people lined up to take their chances at the many prize booths.
And of course there was the always-popular chicken dinner with all the fixiings.
One guest from Alabama said “I really enjoyed my afternoon. The fried chicken was exceptionally good. And it was a great opportunity to pick up gifts from the pottery sale. I’ll try to come back again next year.”
Br. Bob Baxter, OFM Conv., Director of the Mount St. Francis Retreat Center, and all of the Friars thank the many volunteers for their dedication to the annual success of the Picnic. Thanks also the the Retreat Center staff for the many extra hours they put in getting the grounds and building ready for all the attendees.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next August!
