This Saturday, October 26, a beautiful fall morning, five members of the San Damiano Friary attended the Archdiocese of San Antonio-sponsored “Walk for Vocations.” Our journey had a Franciscan flair as it began and concluded at Missions the Franciscans established in the 1700s: Mission Conception and Mission San Jose.
There were an estimated 200+ participants, including other members of religious orders and congregations, diocesan priests, and seminarians. The four and a half mile walk allowed for plenty of time to meet new people and see some familiar faces as well. Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller was his usual welcoming and warm self; he greeted the Franciscans with a hug and words of encouragement.
Pictured is the Archbishop, second year postulant Andrew Henessy, first year postulant Jacob Minjarez and myself. Our other second year postulant Tony Martinez was busy facilitating a 300+ youth gathering the Archbishop would attend following our walk. Overall it was an enjoyable day for all, and one we trust will produce some good fruit in the near future.
