Mount Saint Francis Campus Updates

The Mount Saint Francis Friary and Center for Spirituality includes the Retreat Center, the Province Offices, Mission
Advancement Offices, Mary Anderson Center for the Arts, post office and other properties used for related ministries.
The Mount campus also borders the 400-acre Mount Saint Francis Sanctuary, which is one of the many sacred spaces
that the friars have preserved for the local community.

The friars maintain the Mount as a residence and sacred space of welcome. It offers spiritual renewal to all people. The friars also make Mount Saint Francis available to other organizations whose purpose is to encourage religious and human enrichment. All is done in a context of respect for creation and the sanctity of life in all its forms.

The recent Province Chapter mandated much-needed updating on our campus at Mount Saint Francis. These updates will allow us to increase revenue from a growing number of retreatants who can afford to stay with us and also better include those in the margins living in Southern Indiana and the Louisville Metro Area.

We will increase our homeless retreats and outreach, allowing children and families living in these impoverished areas an opportunity for fresh air and an introduction to Franciscan spirituality.

Also, all the upgrades will be in line with our Franciscan Earth Care Initiative which is a public and spiritual commitment to model the Franciscan vision of environmental stewardship and sustainability. That will include solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, and materials and appliances that reduce energy and water waste or harm the the environment in any way. Mount Saint Francis will be a model campus for all of our Franciscan campuses and parishes. That includes the following projects:

  • Bathroom renovations providing private
    bathrooms for guests
  • Room updates to include handicap accessibility
  • Barn renovation to provide a rentable event space
  • Solar panels
  • Geothermal heating and cooling for the Chapel
  • Mary Anderson Center for the Arts updates
  • Two new studio spaces for the Mary Anderson Center

That will allow us to invite more adult and professional retreats to our center and to bring more people to our beautiful campus in Southern Indiana.
