Creation Is a gift.  As such we have a profound responsibility to care for it. Yet, as Pope Francis so eloquently points out in his encyclical Laudato Si’: Care for Our Common Home, our materialistic lifestyles are leading us to ravage our planet rather than encouraging us to nurture it. In this talk, I will briefly trace the history of the gift of creation and show how our propensity to emit greenhouse gasses works against that history, resulting in the many impacts of climate change which you hear about so often: heat waves and deep freezes, floods and drought, severe storms and wildfires, migration and deaths. Yet we have in our hands the technological tools necessary to solve climate change. We just don’t seem to have the wisdom needed to employ them. Pope Francis gives us that wisdom through his Laudato Si’ Action Platform. I thus close with a sketch of his Action Platform and show how you can adopt it in your own dioceses, parishes, congregations, schools, or community organizations.
