For Sean Culver, art is not merely what appears on the wall—it is a living invitation. His work creates opportunities for connection, reflection, and dialogue. With this exhibition, he explores the sacred terrain of language: how it unites or divides us, how it fades or persists, and how our culture chooses which words to honor, forget, or redefine.
At the heart of this exhibition are fragile, fading, and often broken words. Through text-based paintings, assemblage sculptures, and installation, Sean renders cloistered or culturally neglected language as both ephemeral and luminous. Each word is presented not as an answer but as a threshold—an opening to memory, to meaning, and to grace. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, Sean invites viewers to discover beauty in imperfection and loss, and to consider what is sacred in what remains.
Mourning Glory is Sean’s third exhibition in which he will be in residency, present in the gallery for extended periods. He looks forward to meeting visitors, welcoming questions, and engaging in thoughtful dialogue. That said, there is no expectation for interaction. The work holds space equally for silence and speech, allowing each visitor to decide how deeply they wish to engage.
The exhibition is at once a lamentation, a meditation, and an invitation to remember.

Meet The Artist
Sean Culver
For me, art is not merely what is on the wall; it is an opportunity to connect with others. It is a chance for me to engage with visitors. My primary objective with this exhibition is to explore how language facilitates either connection or disconnection and how the words we use, omit, or forget shape our culture.
This is my third exhibition in which I will be available in the gallery for extended periods—see details for dates I’ll be in residency. While I look forward to meeting visitors to the gallery and to receiving questions or critical feedback and perhaps discussing philosophical and artistic ideas, I certainly want everyone to choose to talk with me or not, so there will be no pressure to engage.
