The new Friary for the Conventual Franciscans living at Holy Cross Retreat Center in Mesilla Park, New Mexico, is beginning to take shape. Concrete has been poured, beams are in place, windows are being installed.
The friars broke ground for the construction of the new Friary on August 2, 2012, rededicating themselves and the Conventual Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Consolation to service in the southwestern United States.
The new Friary will have room for seven Franciscans, who will work at the Retreat Center and other ministries in the Diocese of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Friars currently serve as retreat and spiritual directors, as hospice chaplains, in ministry to young Catholics, and in celebrating the Eucharist in parishes and mission areas of the diocese.
