The Annual Mount St. Francis Picnic will run from 11 a.m. to midnight this Saturday, August 31st. The chicken dinners are prepared by the Mount St. Francis Retreat Center’s professional chefs and dozens of great cooks from around the region. In addition to the chicken, there will be brats, hot dogs, ice cream, and lots of other delicious food items. A beer garden with DJ, scores of items up for silent auction, a roomful of hidden treasures (a yard sale junkie’s delight), a quilt booth, and games for kids and adults. The ceramics wizards from the Mary Anderson Center for the Arts will be holding a pottery sale. This is a great opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping.

Across the country in Mesilla Park, New Mexico, Holy Cross Retreat Center is sponsoring the Annual Franciscan Festival of Fine Arts. It’s open Saturday, August 31st, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, September 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be more than 90 artist booths, along with Enchilada dinners, live music all day, beer/wine garden, raffle, silent auction, and more.
