Our Lady of Consolation

Pictured is a statue of Our Lady of Consolation, the patroness of our Conventual Franciscan province. The statue resides at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, OH where our friars have ministered since 1912. At the base of the statue is her title in Latin, Consolatrix Afflictorum, which translates “Comfort of the afflicted.” This title dates from the 2nd century and is one of the oldest titles attributed to our Blessed Mother. As custodians of the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, our friars have brought her message of comfort and care to thousands of pilgrims in the Shrine’s 147 year history.

Our friars bring this message of comfort and care to all their ministries, from the Southwest to the Midwest, to Central America and Zambia. Like the Blessed Mother, who holds out the Christ child to the viewer, our friars hold out the compassionate and healing Christ to all.

We are so grateful to have you as one of our countless partners in this ministry of comfort and compassion. Your prayers and encouraging words, as well as your financial support, empower and inspire us in our quest to live the Gospel life.

Thank you for your continued love and support,
