Over the weekend of June 9, 2013, the friars celebrated 100 years of service by the Secular Franciscan Order, St. Anthony of Padua Fraternity, at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, in Carey, Ohio. Fr. Jim Kent, OFM Conv., Minister General for the Province of Our Lady of Consolation, presided at Mass. A group photo opportunity was followed by a reception in the Shrine’s cafeteria.
Also on Sunday, Debbie Kaiser and many members of her family were present, along with parishioners and other pilgrims, for the dedication of the shrine’s newest statue in the lower basilica – the Apostle Saint Jude Thaddeus. Saint Jude is known as the patron saint of the impossible, who intercedes in difficult situations, reminding us that nothing is impossible for God.
Please visit the Shrine and see this statue, as well as the recently added statue of Blessed Teresa. Both are located in the lower basilica.
The flooring in the lower basilica has been replaced and all of the pews and kneelers restored. It provides a nice environment for prayer and devotion.
