Franciscan Retreats and Spirituality Center, Prior Lake, is pleased to announce that the Christian non-profit organization, Feed My Starving Children, will be the 57^th recipient of the Franciscan International Award. The Award will be presented on Thursday, May 7^th at the Franciscan International Award Dinner at the Wilds Golf Club in Prior Lake, MN.

Founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children provides nutritionally complete meals for starving, malnourished and hungry people in nearly 70 countries. The prepackaged dry meals –costing less than a quarter each to make – are funded and assembled by donor-volunteers in the United States. In 2013, over 191 million meals were prepacked by over 800,000 volunteers; more than half of the volunteers were under the age of 18.

Since 1959, The Franciscan International Award has honored men, women and organizations who symbolize the spirit and the apostolic zeal of St. Francis of Assisi. Previous recipients of the award include: Dr. Billy Graham for True Ecumenism (1972); Dr. Mildred Jefferson, M.D. – as a leader in the Pro-Life Movement (1978); Habitat for Humanity – for making available Housing for the Poor (1999); Sister Helen Prejean -for being an advocate for those on death row, their victims, their families, and the families of their victims (2003) and Fran Heitzman, the founder of Bridging for helping families to furnish homes with hope (2014).

For 57 years the Franciscan International Award Dinner has been an opportunity for retreatants and friends of the retreat house to gather and honor an individual or organization that represents the spirit and ideals of St. Francis of Assisi.
