Br. John Maurer has spent the last 30 years working with what he calls “street people:” the poor, the homeless, those caught in the traps of drug abuse and prostitution.
“Sometimes it wears me out, the streets are harsh,” he said. “But the people are
so open with me. They know I’m never going to shame them or put them down. I
just accept them where they are, just like Jesus would do. They tell me, ‘We love you Br. John, you’re one of us.’”
