Pope Francis began the day with a Chrism Mass during which he and priests renewed the vows they took upon their ordination and he blessed the oils to be used in administering sacraments during the year. In the afternoon the Pope travelled to a Care Center where he washed the feet of 12 sick and disabled people, in commemoration of Jesus’ humility towards the apostles at the Last Supper. The 12 ranged in age from 16 to 86 and included four women and a 75 year-old Muslim man who suffered severe brain damage from an accident. Pope Francis reminded us that we need to be servants to on another.
“Remember when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received – only what you have given.”
-St. Francis of Assisi
