A few weeks ago, Dominican Friar Fr. Elias Henritzy, O.P., visited with Conventual Franciscan Friar Fr. Paul Schloemer, OFM Conv., at Mount St. Francis, Indiana. The two friars met to talk about the mendicant orders – the ‘begging’ orders – and about what it means to be a Dominican or a Franciscan.
Fr. Elias is the Associate Pastor at St. Louis Bertrand Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Fr. Paul is the Vocation Director for the Province of Our Lady of Consolation and later this year will transition to Formation Director in San Antonio, Texas.
The two friars talked for nearly an hour about their respective orders. The unscripted conversation went from antimatter, Dr. Who, and home brewing to more serious topics such as education and study, the Vatican, St. Dominic, and St. Francis.
We broke the conversation into eleven chapters so you can watch the ones you are most interested in or, if you have the time or are discerning a vocation, you can watch the entire playlist in about 40 minutes.
The topics are as follows:
1) Origins, Traditions, Rules and Connections

3) Education and Study
4) Charism and Change
5) The Feminine Side
6) Friar Equals Brother
7) Living in Community
