In appreciation for many years of extraordinary generosity and dedicated service to the Conventual Franciscan Friars, The Province of Our Lady of Consolation presented the Franciscan Partner Award to Phyllis and David Schickel and their family on Monday evening,
January 14.

The Friars at Mount St. Francis in southern Indiana hosted the Schickel family at dinner. After the meal, Br. Paul Clark, Br. Bob Baxter, Br. Angelo Catania, and Fr. Jim Kent, OLC Minister Provincial, spoke of the many ways the Schickels have helped the Friars throughout the years — from long hours of volunteer service at the annual Mount St. Francis Picnic to actual brick and mortar work around the Mount. Additionally, they have made a significant contribution to the retreat ministry here at the Mount.

It is because of friends and benefactors like the Schickels that the province is able to continue its many ministries. Many people marvel at how well-preserved the Mount’s facilities are, despite the use of thousands of retreatants and other visitors each year. The Schickels play an important role in that ongoing maintenance.

Phyllis and David were presented with a large plaque with the Award Medallion attached. Sons David Jr., Jay, and Jerry were presented with individual medallions. Also attending the dinner and presentation was the Schickels’ grandson Trey.
